We coordinate efforts to reduce unnecessary care in alignment with Choosing Wisely recommendations. Together, we promote safe care delivered through a more sustainable and effective health system, in partnership with an advisory group of clinical leaders, health authorities, Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health.

Appropriate care is informed by evidence and best practice to optimize care for a person’s specific health and wellness goals. It weighs the benefits and risks of interventions to avoid the overuse or underuse of tests, treatments or services.
Choosing Wisely BC advances this dimension by working with partners to reduce unnecessary care and align clinical decisions with what matters most to patients.
Who is Choosing Wisely Canada?

In 2025, HQBC established the Choosing Wisely BC Hub through a formal collaboration with Choosing Wisely Canada. This aligns the BC Hub with other provinces and territories working to advance appropriate care through coordinated national efforts.
Choosing Wisely Canada is a national initiative that partners with clinicians and patients to reduce unnecessary care. With more than 400 evidence-based recommendations across specialties, it offers a strong foundation for improving clinical decision-making.
